Juan Carlos I King os Spain does not live at the Royal Palace, this is the offical place for public receptions, official dinners in honor to other kings or presidents from other countries officially visiting Spain.

In order to avoid living in a large palace and waste money, with the democracy the King and the Queen live here: a small palace formerly used for hunting.

King Juan Carlos I live in the palace of the Zarzuela (,-3.801822&spn=0.002689,0.004807&t=h&z=18) this palace is much more modest than the Palacio de Oriente, which is reproduced in the post.

Queen Beatrix of Orange, Queen of the Netherlands does not live in palace 'Het Loo' (which is on the picture), but in palace 'Huis ten Bosch' see:

Palace 'Het Loo' is more of a tourist attraction these days and only rarely used for official business.
