Burqini: A Bikini for Muslim Women

A new twist on the bikini a "burkini" designed so Muslim women can enjoy a day on the beach. The burkini, is made from UV and water-protected polyester. It covers the whole body except for the feet, hands and face.

Its Australian designer, Aheda Zanetti, has been swamped with thousands of inquiries about the product from Europe, Britain, the United States, Asia and the Middle East. Zanetti said she started producing the Burqini as Muslim women were missing out on sports because of their dress code.

It allows Muslim women to swim in public, instead of wearing the full length dresses and robes.

Muslim women are free to choose who can see her body and who couldn't.

Nothing is by force in the real Islam...Islam is a believe...and we,the muslims, do that because we beleive in that...Force will never make you do things forever!

lol! stfu Basheer. typical muslim, trying to convince everyone islam is a religion of peace that totally doesn't opress women. a woman without burqa would be stoned to death the moment she steps outside. women have been killed just for showing a bit of their hand in the street. muslim savages.

Coyote said...

Doesn't this defeat the entire purpose of the burqa?

I thought it was used to hide and generally make women unappealing to anyone. I.e. never to be noticed.

Pretty sure a floral print pink jumpsuit would still get the poor woman stoned if she went into the wrong swimming hole.

Pathetic...Absolutely Absurd. With their way of life the beach is off limits for them. I don't know why these people even try.

Could someone tell these jokers to stop lying! Muslims do everything by force. For example. Sun tanned women are outlawed in Iran. They will be arrested on sight. Bibles are illegal in most (if not all) Arab Nations. WOmen CANNOT Walk in public without the Islamic dress (Even if they are visiting). It's rediculous. Please tell the truth.

Leave it to towel heads. They will screw anything up

Amusing people...

You tell us we are being oppressed...well, if we were oppressed, why arent we protesting? The only idiots protesting are those who dont even use the burqa...they are protesting for attention from people with limited knowledge...

About the stoning...can you bother doing full research...or like "mr. please tell the truth"

The stoning is ONLY allowed if you seriously have a shariah system...which mind you no govt has...they stone coz they are backward minded not coz they follow shariah...even in HINDU INDIA women are buried alive (forget stoning) but no1 points...hey Hinduism OPPRESSES?!

No people pick on Islam...why coz they seem to be scared of things they dont knw

OR

coz its the inn thing...u think u sound "cool" when u say Muslims are oppressed? Well to us you sound like nut-heads :P

WASSALAM

JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND THESE MUSLIMS, HOW CAN A RELIGION EVER PREACH VIOLENCE AGAINST OTHER RELIGIONS!!!
THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE WITHOUT ALL THIS ISLAMIC FANATICISM

ok mr know it all show me where in the quran does it say go fowarth and destroy any religion that is not islam. and if you have not read the quran which is what i suspect which mosque did you attend a lecture that as you say "preached" violence against other religions. lastly did your history teachers neglect to theach your class about crusaides? just like you said in your comment you really just dont understand? you should have some maturiety and form your own opinions based on your own research before sharing it with others. and one last thing. i am an american. born in the united states from a christian mother and father. my blood line goes back 5 generations from ireland, england and scottland. and furthermore i am an army veteran who served my country. i choose to be covered. i speak not only for my self but for all my muslimah sisters we are not oppressed. our men respect us. they lower their gaze as you gawk at your women like they are a peice of meat. our men actually marry us and love us and father our children while you date your women use them for sex and throw them out when you are satisfied. and if you father a baby you deny it and refuse to support it. so tell me who is really oppressed? one should not throw out such accusations as you and the others on here with out first taking a clear unbiased inventory of ones self. salam aleikum rahmatoula wa barakatoh. (may peace and blessings be upon you and the mercy of allah)

The Islamophobes on this thread are sickening.

In Shariah law only adultery is punishable by stoning, and four eyewitnesses are required (yes this requirement is ignored in Iran, but that isn't Islam's fault).

Not even the Taliban KILLED women for refusing to wear the burqa (flogged them yes, killed them no).

The last Islamic major power was the Ottoman Empire, which only stoned one woman in its entire 600+ year history. She was a 16th-century soldier's wife who had sex with a Jewish stonemason 25 years her junior, inside the incomplete building that he was currently assigned to work on, when a crowd happened to walk in.

hahaha... pics are awesome.. and even more awesome is the name.. "burqini" :D.

and all those here defending islam... babes, islam is a gold-mine of jokes and ridicule, how can you expect people not to make fun of it, just because you still believe in it?

you know, the double talk, the double standards, and the trechery of muslims are so evident in the world history that you can't defend it on logical grounds...

someone above said, that none of the countries are following shariyat... so are you saying that shariyat is not a part of islam, it is, and if it is imposed as a whole on any modern country, it will be so inhumane and impractical that every single citizen of that country will leave islam...

as far as burqa is concerned, you are comfortable with it, because you've never seen the freedom and now you are used to it. well good for you. but tell me this, isn't marrying 4 women or more is an oppression of women? even if you dont think so, it gotta be unnatural at least, since men and women are born in equal numbers in nature..

Why all the hate for the Burqini? I'm not even a Muslim, (I'm a liberal Reform Jew) and I want one! I have always been uncomfortable showing much skin, which has driven me away from swimming for years. I love comfortable, modest clothing. Even the hood will keep my hair out of my face. I look forward to getting a Burqini of my own, and I will wear it proudly!

muslim men should be sent to live in caves where they can learn what it is like to be oppressed like a woman

I don't understand why ppl are making fun of muslim women here and Islam.

Lets just pretend that all Muslims are a big nation where they have bad and good people just like all the other nations and religions in the world. (I don't think Rome also follows all the Christianity laws properly even thought its a Catholic Christian state)(even though a country is known to be islamic is not following the rules of islam properly for the same good reason Christian states aren't following all the laws properly)
Making fun of them is just the stupidest thing you can do. it's like saying that Japanese women are the stupidest and oppressed women just because they are required to take smaller steps compared to men. or its like making fun of an Indian woman wearing a traditional Indian dress where ever she goes and thinking that she is the most oppressed woman in the world.

Grow up ppl. instead of pointing at ppl, pay attention to the other 3 fingers in your fist pointing at yourself.

I also think the Burqini is one of the coolest things i have ever seen. it sort of looks like a diving suit.

So typical...I'm american and even I'm sick of the stupidity. Religion is nothing more than a power play. No one religion is superior because you don't talk to God. You just have a complex . Every religon has done its fair share of evil. Stoning torture ect. And yes even your precious christianty. Google the spanish inquisition for all of y'all holyier than thou idiots. Its great that open minded people can help those that have religious resrictions to be able to enjoy life more. Wear what you want. Ignore these morons since only Fox News gives them credit.

Seriously.. what is wrong with my fellow americans? Why do yall make everything about politics or religion? And FYI all you holyier than thou morons: every religion has done its fair share of evil.. YES EVEN YOUR PRECIOUS CHRISITANITY (Google Spanish Inquisition). For fruck sake only Fox news takes you seriously, and no sane person takes Fox seriously. I think that we should send all the tea-baggers and right wingers to live in caves, maybe then they'd stfu or die of starvation since they dont know how to obtain food that someone else hasnt cooked for them. If you have love in your heart that is all that matters. Peace and chicken grease!

Got to love how little most non-Muslims know about Islam...

1) It is not Islam that demands women wear burqa's, niqabs, hijabs or veils, it is tradition. All Islam says is to dress modestly so as not to be confused with a street worker. Everything else is cultural.

2) Only Shia Muslims can have up to 4 wives. Sunni's do not.

3) I'm all for burkini's, I'm sure they are light enough to allow a woman to swim. Swimming with the long robes might be dangerous and most pools do not allow people to swim outside of swimwear.

If you want to see a different perspective try reading "The Crusades from Arab eyes" by Amin Maaloof. Very interesting read.

Wow, people can be so blind, ignorant, and pathetically self-righteous. Despite all these self proclaimed "modern" and "educated" people accusing Islam of being medieval, violent, and saying Muslims need to get with the times, they're actually pretty archaic and childish themselves. They don't seem to realize that oppression comes in all kinds of forms (just because some clueless monkey doesn't agree with Islam and says it's oppressive, doesn't make it so. For anyone out there, it's a good idea to actually read CREDIBLE books and gain knowledge before just forming bigoted opinions based on propaganda polluting the media)
In western society a beautiful half naked woman is placed on a billboard. She's attractive, skinny, so obviously accepted. This is an ideal mould that society has created for other women to fit. Women develop eating disorders to fit in. They put themselves through plastic surgery. A small example of how the worth and value of a woman is measured by how much skin she shows and how much her face is made up. Now, all the hillbillies out there may disagree, but to me this seems like a form of oppression in itself.
But a Muslim woman who chooses to wear hijab and dress modestly is oppressed and if she says otherwise "omg she's brainwashed!"
Makes so much sense *vomits sarcasm*
Muslim women wear the hijab to protect themselves, their modesty, and wear it for God. (Also, in the Quran we are told to be modest and cover everything except our face, hands, and feet. The niqab and burqa are more culture based than anything, so don't get those two confused)
I don't really expect any bigoted monkeys out there to fully understand which is why I highly suggest for them to make an effort to *GASP* open their minds (or a book!) Woah, mind blown! Peace

You are all missing the point here. Every religion is based on circumstances that existed during its creation. The rules given in Islam were ideal for the time of the prophet. What the fanatics don't get is that we need to advance as time goes by and what pisses me off is that they insist on staying in the past.

Please don't get me wrong, I don't hate muslims. Its the fanatics that I hate very much. Religious fundamentalism can never work in the modern world and its even worse than communism.

You see you can quote as many as you want about the events like spanish inquisition, the sati(the hindu system in which the wife is burnt alive along with the body of the dead husband) as examples of brutality; but you have to admit that these things of the past never occur these days, while I saw a report of a teenager girl being executed in Iran. No matter what principles and moral ethics that Islam or whatever preaches, the fact that a non-adult is executed cannot be justified at any level. These things happen only where the islamic fanatics prevail.

Now lets talk about the Burqa. According to the teachings of the prophet, he has clearly asked women to wear a burqa at all times. What he really intended was that women should wear clothes in public so that they remain protected against lustful men, which was hard in those days. Now, has it ever occurred to anyone that the reason the burqa is mentioned is because thats the only known dress for women those days around mecca? Over the years when other dresses were discovered, these fanatics keep on insisting on the burqa as the only acceptable dress in the world for women. If the woman like wearing burqas then there is no problem with her wearing it; But forcing a woman to wear it while she doesn't want to is clearly an oppression over women and clearly a violation of human rights.

I don't really want a burqini, but I wouldn't mind having one of those old fashioned Victorian bathing costumes like Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd.

I have been Muslim all my life, lived overseas, and was born and raised here; I think it's appalling that people who are NOT Muslim are telling me what my religion is and isn't. Just because a small percentage of people act crazy doesn't mean -- 2 billion people practicing a religion (or THAT religion itself) is any of the things you are saying. I think you are just trying to convince yourself that Islam is bad or scary because you're afraid of anything that's different and you are very hateful people. You are gullible because you believe anything you are told, read, and see on the news. Pretty pathetic and ignorant - especially since the people who are actually a part of your community who are practicing Muslims are trying to reach out to you and tell you otherwise. Reject me all you want, but it just proves my point that as an American and a Muslim, you are the violent and ignorant one and I am actually very right, peaceful, and persecuted ... and you are unwilling to learn anything - you just want to hurt anything that is contrary to what you believe because you are scared little mice. Peace out. Nora

This is the first time i have ever left a comment. (so i hope this is sent)The Burqini is a really funny way of dressing, but you have to give the idea the full credit it deserves. I can see why half the commenters are like over reacting about Islam, when they are so used to seeing their own women naked on the beach.(pls don't give the freedom of choice crap excuse- ur all seen in the same way, regardless of the race)
Plus isn't it obvious that the burqini is an optional swimwear choice given to the modern woman. Hence why they are not hiding or being stoned to death for it.
Power to whoever challenges the social norm!

Why is it the only muslim complain and promote hate against muslims, if muslims were left alone and not harresed there will be so much peace--muslims r the most peaceful people in the world but they can also be like the lion if we get poked at to many times u will hear us roar

Anonymous said...

I'm a muslim but I really do value my own opinions and my freedom to choose more than anything and I do not like being forced!! However, if u really think about it all the rules in islam are very logical!! someone previously mentioned that in islam a man can have 4 wives, that is true but this rule came out in the period of time when there were wars.... many males member of the family (mostly the "father") have to go out and fight! and many died!! if the leader of the family is dead, then what would happen to the wife and children?? thats why they allow men who have enough resources to take in another wife, just so that they wont strave!! ISN'T THAT REASONABLE?? and they even stated that you must treat all the wives equally!! However, the "bad" muslims r abusing this rule by excusing themselves to have many wives!!

My point here is that women are never oppressed!! everything are there for a reason!! & just because there are a few bad ass who abuse the rules doesn't mean that the rest of us are the same!! Please just try to open your heart up to understand others!! and to all the muslims, please don't get angry! some people are just not lucky and blessed by Allah enough to see the truth yet!!
