The first photo - the one with plastic bottles of water on top of a metal sheet - is not a repair job. It's also neither funny or dumb.

It's a method of making water safe to drink, used in places where there is no source of safe water. The bottles are filled and placed out in direct sunlight for 6 or more hours, where the heat and ultraviolet light kills bacterial and amoebic contamination.
